Coming as his replacement, Chase Claypool set to wear Stefon Diggs No.14 jersey at Bills
Things are beginning to look up for the Buffalo Bills. After an uncertain first half of free agency, the team has begun to add considerable pieces on offense. The Bills added Chase Claypool from the Miami Dolphins. He will now pair up with Keon Coleman to become the key target for Josh Allen.
The Buffalo Bills signed Chase Claypool to a one-year contract. He comes as a breath of fresh air to the team after the departure of Stefon Diggs. The newest member of the Bills will be donning the number 14 jersey which was previously made iconic by Diggs. It is an unusual number for Claypool, who has worn the numbers 11, 10, and 83 with the Steelers, Bears, and Dolphins respectively, but this will be the first time he wears 14 in his NFL career.
Claypool was unable to find a stable home last season as he was traded to the Miami Dolphins halfway through the year. Owing to this, he managed to have just 8 receptions for 77 yards and one touchdown, a rather surprising event considering his stellar rookie season.
Chase Claypool will look to establish himself as a top wideout in the NFL on the Bills
In his rookie year, he showed immense potential, having caught 62 passes for 873 yards and 9 touchdowns. The Pittsburgh Steelers had a star on their roster and hoped to build on his remarkable debut. But things did not go as planned. Claypool caught 59 passes for 860 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2021.
He was soon enough traded to the Chicago Bears wherein he caught 18 passes over the span of 10 games. He was then traded to the Dolphins, wherein he did not get any playing time. The move to the Buffalo Bills comes as a boon to him at this time. Claypool has a golden opportunity to resurrect his career and to prove to the critics that his first two seasons as a Steeler were not a fluke.
The fact that he will be wearing Stefon Diggs‘ number 14 jersey will add some more expectations upon him. Nevertheless, it is a smart move considering a lot of fans in Buffalo own the jersey and now that Diggs is gone, their jersey will not go to waste. Hopefully, Claypool has the breakout season that he must have in order to show that he still has it in him.
